The Existence of God
by Gary LintonThe Atheist - doesn't believe there is a God. There are five kinds of Atheists:
- Foolish (Psalm 14:1).
- Corrupt (Psalm 14:1).
- Practical (James 2:17-19).
- Theoretical.
- Rebellious (Psalm 14:1).
Agnostic - Those who think it is impossible to know if there is a God, future life, or anything beyond material phenomena (Webster).
- Greek - means "don't know".
- Latin - means "ignoramus".
The Bible assumes the existence of God without attempting to prove it.
- Hebrews 11:6.
- Writers of scripture claim to know God personally therefore assuming His existence.
Why should we attempt to prove the existence of God when the Bible doesn't?
- To convince genuine seekers (1 Peter 3:15 & Luke 16:31).
- To strengthen the faith of those who already believe.
- To enrich our knowledge of the God we serve.
Arguments for the existence of God:
- The argument from creation (Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 11:1-3, Romans 1:20).
- The argument from design.
- The argument from the nature of man.
- The argument from history ( Daniel 5:21).
- The argument from universal belief (Romans 1:19-23).
- The argument from prophetic fulfillment.
