Prayerlessness a Sin – 1 Samuel 12:23

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

What is our prayer life like? Do we throw up an occasional prayer as things arise, or do we have a time set apart daily for spending time with the Lord in prayer? [more]

Various Views of the Rapture

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

The second coming of Jesus for His church is often referred to as the Rapture. All true Christians believe Jesus will return for us one day as He promised (John 14:1-3). This is referred to as the “blessed hope” of the believer (Titus 2:13). When the Lord returns for us is not nearly as important as that He will return for us. [more]

Fivefold Ministry of the Holy Spirit

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

There has always been a lot of confusion over the ministry of the Holy Spirit. There are usually two extremes. One where there is an over emphasis concerning manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and another where the manifestations are completely thrown out of the church today. Both extremes are equally wrong. How to Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

by Gary Linton   September 2009   4 Comments

This is a follow up to the teaching I recently sent out on the Fivefold Ministry of the Holy Spirit. To summarize that teaching, the Holy Spirit is with us prior to conversion drawing us to Christ, He dwells in us for the purpose of regeneration, He fills us to produce character and fruit in our lives, He comes upon us empowering us for acts of service, and Jesus baptizes us with or in the Holy Spirit which opens us up to the gifts of the Spirit. Jesus’ Return: Is the End of The Age Near?

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

While leaving the temple the disciples asked Jesus, “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age (Matthew 24:3)?” There has been much speculation over the years concerning this topic, but more than ever people are sensing that something is about to take place. We can’t know when the end will be exactly, but we can tell when it’s near. Let me share a few things that reveal the end could be imminent. [more]

What are the Four Beasts of Revelation 5:14?

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

One of our Pastors from Pakistan emailed me and asked what the four beasts were in Revelation 5:14. It had been a while since I studied Revelation so I procrastinated in answering. When I finally got around to answering his question, the Holy Spirit began to stir a message in my heart. Below is both the answer to his question and the message God gave me. [more]

Feeding of the 5,000

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

The disciples had just returned from being sent out to proclaim the kingdom with authority over all demons and power to heal the sick. They came back excited and fired up over what God had done (Luke 9:1-6). It was what we would think of as a large, exciting, and flourishing ministry. Similarly today, it’s like when we make a thrust for a crusade, outreach, concert or similar ministry. [more]

The Tithe

by Gary Linton   September 2009   62 Comments

Nehemiah 13:10-11a NKJV says, “I also realized that the portions for the Levites had not been given them; for each of the Levites and the singers who did the work had gone back to the field. So I contended with the rulers, and said why is the house of God forsaken?” [more]

Financial Grace – 2 Corinthians 9:8

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you.” In the context grace refers to finances and giving. The Corinthians and Macedonians were experiencing financial hardship (2 Corinthians 8:2) and in the midst of their difficulty Paul writes that God is able to make financial grace to abound to them. Benefits of the Word of God

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

The Word of God can benefit us in more ways than we can possibly imagine. The writer of Hebrews says, “The Word of God is alive and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12). What’s so great about the Bible is that it is not just some ordinary book but it is the living Word, inspired by God almighty. It is literally “God breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16). It will do for you what no other book or anything else will do. [more]

Benefits of the Word of God – Part 2

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

In the first part of Benefits of the Word of God we learned in order for the Word of God to benefit us we must not only know it’s content, but we must use it. If we study His Word, put it into practice and use it, we will find it to be of immeasurable benefit. Isaiah said that when His Word is used properly it would not return to Him void but would accomplish the very purpose for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:10-11). [more]

Benefits of the Word of God – Part 3

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

As we continue on in this series it must be noted that God’s Word is the foundation for all faith and practice. Our lives and beliefs must be founded on His Word. If what we believe and stand for is not grounded in the Word we are standing on sinking sand (Matthew 7:24-27). Let’s explore the remainder of it’s benefits. [more]

Scattered Christians – James 1:1

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

In James 1:1, the author begins his letter by introducing himself as “a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greetings.” The word for scattered here is diaspora. It means “to sow through.” It was a technical term for those residing outside of Jerusalem. [more]

Are you a Victim or a Victor?

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

We live in a world where everyone seems to be a victim in one way or another. It’s not God’s design for us to become victims of situations and things that happen to us. His design for our lives is that we be victorious over the things that life throws at us. Through out history there have been people who have gone through devastating circumstances which they have overcome. [more]

True Spirituality

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

According to the Fresh Fire website, Todd Bentley entered into an unhealthy relationship, on an emotional level, with a female member of his staff. As a result, he agreed to step down from his position on the Board of Directors and to refrain from all public ministry for a season. Hearing of this and remembering the events of the eighties when major TV evangelists fell, I began pondering on what it means to be truly spiritual. [more]

Lack of Conviction in a Christian’s Life

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

David cried out to the Lord, “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me” (Psalms 51:11). David said this after dealing with his sin with Bathsheba. This is something that should be the constant cry of every true born again believer. When we cease to feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit in our life, we are in a desperate situation. [more]

The Basis for Spiritual Inclusiveness – 1 John 1:1-3

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

There’s a lot of talk today about unity, fellowship and inclusiveness. Let me state up front that I believe in inclusiveness. However, if we are talking of true Christian fellowship and unity there is inclusiveness only around the person of Jesus Christ. John wrote, “That you also may have fellowship with us and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3). [more]

Impacting Our World

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

First of all, let’s understand that we will never be able to make a real impact on our society through legislation, programs and committees alone. Things done in the flesh in and of itself are doomed to failure – they must be done through Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is how the early disciples turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6). [more]

Benefits of the Blood of Christ

by Gary Linton   September 2009   6 Comments

The main purpose for which Jesus came was to shed His blood. As the old hymn said, “There is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the lamb.” There are numerous benefits in Jesus’ blood. [more]

Faithfulness – Searched For and Required

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

“Help Lord, for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men” (Psalms 12:1). “Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, but who can find a trustworthy (faithful) man” (Proverbs 20:6)? “The faithful disappear from among the sons of men” seems to be a phrase coined for today if one ever could be. Who can find a faithful man? This is what God is searching for among His people and it is a very rare commodity in our day. [more]

The Advice of a Mother – John 2:1-11

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

How many have at one time or another received advice from your mother? Wise is the one that heeded their mother’s advice. I would venture to say that there have been many times when we did not adhere our mother’s advice, to our dismay. In John 2 we not only have Jesus’ first miracle but the advice that Jesus’ mother gave some servants at a wedding feast. [more]

Suffering in the Life of a Believer

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

Suffering is a very real issue in life and in the body of Christ. It is something that hits everyone in one way or the other throughout life. Suffering may come in the form of financial hardship, physical problems, rejection, relationships (marital, family, business, church, etc.), and in a myriad of other different ways. [more]

Abundant Living

by Gary Linton   September 2009   No Comments

Most people never experience life to the extent they were meant to. Having a good job and making decent money doesn’t mean you will experience fullness of life. Many who have been successful and had more than they could have ever dreamed still end up disappointed with life. [more]

Bitter Root Expectancy – Hebrews 12:15

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

When we have negative things happen over and over, failure, or people have told us that we will never amount to much, we begin to believe and expect those very things. We don’t necessarily think this in our head, but believe it down deep inside. [more]

How To Prepare Yourself and Your Church For a Move of God

by Kim Linton   September 2009   2 Comments

This is the basic outline from one of my husband’s sermons with my two-cents worth thrown in. I encourage you to read all of Acts chapter 2 so you have a better understanding of what was going on with the disciples during that time. Always make sure the Word being taught is the real deal, regardless of the source. Anyone can twist a passage from the Bible to make it say what ever they want it to say. [more]

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

by Kim Linton   September 2009   No Comments

The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, faith in Christ would be meaningless. The resurrection was foretold hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth. [more]

Is It Possible to Fall Short of the Grace of God?

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

What does it mean to have the grace of God upon your life? Grace means unmerited or undeserved favor. In other words, there is nothing we can do to earn God’s favor because it is freely given by Him. So, if we can’t do anything to earn God’s grace, is it possible to lose or fall short of it? [more]

Words That Kill: How to Tame the Tongue

by Kim Linton   September 2009   No Comments

My husband and I have a brief bible study together every morning before we start our day. Our last study was taken from James chapter three which discusses how dangerous our words can be. I’ve read these passages many times before, but this time they came alive to me in a new way. [more]

Keys to Effective Praying

by Gary Linton   September 2009   3 Comments

How would you like to have an effective prayer life? The Bible says, “Elijah was a man subject to like passions (weaknesses and failure) as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit” (James 5:17-18 KJV). [more]

The Authority of the Believer – Ephesians 1:19-23 & 2:6

by Gary Linton   September 2009   2 Comments

Notice what it says in these verses, “What is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us that believe” (1:19); “Far above all principality, and power, and might and dominion, and every name that is named” (1:21); “And hath put all things under His feet” (1:22). He gave all that authority to His body, the church (1:22-23. We are seated in heavenly places with Him (2:6), where he is head over all things (1:22-23). [more]

Authority of the Believer – Implementing Authority

by Gary Linton   September 2009   3 Comments

In our previous message, “The Authority of the Believer,” we discussed the authority that has been allotted us in and through Christ and some areas we should have authority over. I want to proceed to share how we can implement, in life, the authority that has been given us in Christ. [more]

Trinity – The Unity and Oneness of God

by Gary Linton   September 2009   1 Comment

The term trinity is not mentioned in the bible. It was first used in the second century to describe the Godhead, which is a biblical term (Colossians 2:9 and Romans 1:20). So “trinity” is merely another word to describe the Godhead. [more]

Trinity – One God, Three Persons

by Gary Linton   October 2009   2 Comments

There is only one God – this is clear throughout scripture. However, there are three persons eternally existent in the one God. Paul Little said it this way, “God is one in His essential being, but that divine essence exist in three modes or forms, each consisting a person, yet in such a way that the divine is wholly in each person.” [more]

Trinity – Illustrations and Examples

by Gary Linton   October 2009   No Comments

We have seen in our earlier two studies on the Trinity that God is one and that there are three persons within the one God. These three are separate and distinct persons yet each are called God. It is impossible to totally grasp this with the finite mind. We are finite creatures attempting to comprehend the infinite. We can, however, understand the concept, and that this is the clear teaching of the Word of God. [more]

The Existence of God: Assumed in Scripture

by Gary Linton   November 2009   2 Comments

The Bible assumes the existence of God, without attempting to prove it. In the book of beginnings, Genesis, we read, “In the beginning God” (Genesis 1:1). God’s existence is assumed. The Bible is God’s letter to His creation (you and me) revealing truth and Himself to us. He desires to have a personal relationship with us. As in the beginning, He invites us to come to Him, walk with and fellowship with Him, as Adam and Eve did in the beginning. He wants a relationship with us. [more]

The Existence of God: Arguments for His Existence

by Gary Linton   November 2009   3 Comments

In the last two messages, we discussed “Two False and Opposing Views” to God’s existence and “The Existence of God: Assumed in Scripture.” In the third part of this series we will deal with arguments for His existence. [more]

The Divinity of Jesus Christ

by Kim Linton   January 2010   2 Comments

People who call themselves Christian are basically proclaiming they believe God exists. Not only do they believe God exists, they also believe the Bible accurately reveals who God is. Unfortunately, some people who claim to be a Christian don’t understand the significance of their proclamation, and as a result are easy targets for individuals and groups who misrepresent Christianity and the divinity of Jesus. Opposing Views to God: Atheism and Agnosticism

by Gary Linton   February 2010   No Comments

There has been throughout history a belief in God in the United States. We even have “In God We Trust” on our money. In recent years we have seen a growing opposition to God or anything having to do with Him. There are two major opposing views to God: [more]

Attributes of God: Essence and Substance of God

by Gary Linton   August 2010   4 Comments

It’s very difficult for the finite mind to adequately comprehend the infinite God. Job said, “Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty” (Job 11:7 NKJV)? Someone illustrated it this way, “trying to understand God is like putting the Atlantic ocean in glass.” But, that does not mean we should not try. [more]

Attributes of God: Essence and Substance of God – Part 2

by Gary Linton   August 2010   4 Comments

In part one of the “Essence and Substance of God,” we saw that essence and substance are basically synonymous when discussing the attributes of God. Essence and substance are what lies beneath a thing; “that in which the qualities or attributes inhere” (Thieson, Lectures in Systematic Theology; page 119). [more]
