I live in depression every day;
In fear for my life for what I might say.
Some think I am stupid living in fear
Of loss for the freedom that I hold dear.
When people suggest a dictatorship
That’s something more than a slip of the lip.
And when another wants execution
That is much more than mere revolution.
When government seeks to take everything
How far is to declaring a king?
That is not what this country was founded for;
Making riches on the backs of the poor.
Allowing some to break the law for free
Is a slap in the face to you and me.
Letting others do whatever they choose
Is just an excuse for rampant abuse.
Forcing churches to bow to government
Ensures that to all a message is sent.
Do as we tell you and not as we do
Or suffer your fate; your life will be through.
What kind of people think they are better
And the rest of us should just be fettered?
What happened to belief in equal right?
Did it just up and disappear one night?
No one denies that some have a good view
But is it what’s best for both me and you?
Until balance can again be restored
It’s necessary our freedom we hoard.
Until each man has the right to be heard
I will not listen to a single word.
This country belongs to all that are here;
Not just to those would rule it with fear.
Charlotte, this is just an amazing piece of work. How you can write such blessed poetry is a gift that is beyond me. You are gifted by God to inspire and uplift us all. I suffer from depression too and your poetic description of it is about as spot on the mark as any I have read. Well done my friend.
