Do You Need Formal Training

By Kim Linton

Many people think that you must have years of college before you can start a new ministry. It is not necessary to have formal training before you start your ministry, but I would recommend that you begin to pursue some type of biblical training as soon as you are able. The more you learn the better equipped you will be.

You can take classes by correspondence from many fine Christian universities if you can't attend as a full-time student. Formal training will increase your confidence in yourself, as well as others confidence in you!

The best way to learn about your area of ministry is to find someone who will become a "father in the faith" and mentor you. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Acts 16:1 & 2, and Philippians 2:19 & 22, Paul mentored Timothy. Timothy served Paul faithfully by helping him grow his ministry.

If you are faithful in what is another man's God may see fit to give you your own!(Luke 16:12) Pray for guidance as to whether you should go ahead and start your ministry, or if you should seek formal training first.

It is also very important that you have someone who can provide a spiritual covering for you. You do not have to be part of a denomination, or have someone controlling your ministry, but you do need to have a fellowship or pastor that will hold you accountable and be there for you if you need help.

Don't try to be a lone ranger! We are all stronger if we have some type of spiritual support and fellowship. If you need a spiritual covering or would like more information on places where you can obtain training, send us an email and we will get back with you as soon as possible.
